Statement of Faith and Ethos

Statement of Faith

As we work in partnership with the local church, we are aware of the doctrinal differences that exist and so we focus on the central issues of our faith. The statements below are our guide:

We believe in:

  • The complete Bible as the inspired Word of God.
  • God as Creator of all people and the Father of all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • The Lord Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son of God, mediator and redeemer. Through faith in Him alone, we receive forgiveness for our sins and life in all its fullness.
  • God the Holy Spirit, equal member of the Trinity, who indwells those who - through faith - have received the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour.
  • The fact of sin and the need for atonement.
  • The incarnation, death, resurrection, ascension and coming again of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ethos

The mission of the church to "...go and make disciples..." demands that the people of God live holy, distinctive lives.  This is not an easy calling and contemporary culture poses major challenges for discipleship. For this reason Exodus takes a clear line on a number of difficult issues:

Abstinence from Alcohol - A Healthy Alternative:

Exodus promotes abstinence from alcohol, tobacco and narcotic substances as a healthy lifestyle alternative and we ask staff and Ex-port and team leaders to support this by taking a position of total abstinence from alcohol while they are involved.

Entertainment Choices:

Poor choices in entertainment, television viewing and internet use, offend a holy God and have a negative impact on us, our families and communities. It is our conviction, that the combination of excessive amounts of alcohol and an increasing sexualisation of the entertainment environment mean that attendance at nightclubs is often detrimental to Christian growth.  For this reason we encourage young people to make positive entertainment choices and ask our Ex-port and team leaders to choose carefully the venues they visit for entertainment and to avoid places that would conflict with the ethos of Exodus or have a negative impact on those they disciple.
