Ministry for Life
Jesus said that society would recognise His disciples by love and through the Ex-press course we aim to encourage young people to develop an attitude of actively loving others.
Goals for the Course
- We want to help group members understand why we engage in ministry, discover more about what ministry looks like and consider and develop ministry in their own lives.
- Through a balance of learning and doing we hope that as we encourage people to be open to God's work, He will prepare and equip them for ministry in their churches, families and communities and that they in turn will choose to be a conduit of truth and grace in their world.
Participants
- The Ex-press course is designed to for young people aged 17 and over.
- Group members tend to have a firm foundation of faith and an understanding of what they believe.
- They should be open to serving and committed to listening to what God may be calling them to be and to do.
Course Content
Ex-press aims to have a balanced approach, encouraging group members to grow in terms of the HEAD, the HEART and the HANDS.
HEAD -Furthering an Understanding of Ministry:
- Reasons, purposes and obstacles encountered in ministry. Alongside the sessions group members read and discuss a devotional Bible reading plan on a regular basis, hopefully enriching their understanding of God and His call on their lives.
HEART -Growing in Passion for God & Compassion for Others:
- Considering priorities and motivation, participants are challenged to seek God's heart for people, striving to identify needs and opportunities to reach out. Groups also consider matters of character by examining a series of "lifestyle issues".
HANDS -Shaping Skills for Action:
- Aiming to equip people ‘on the job' and helping them identify and develop their gifts. Some sessions are spent doing local ministry and carrying out practical acts of love and service in their community as group members put their faith into action and see God at work.
