A Stepping Stone to Mentor
In June 2008 Lisburn City Elim continued their relationship with Exodus Lisburn in running the Get Connected mentoring scheme within our local church. Something that is valued in our church as well as life is a sense of accountability and mentoring. After announcing Get Connected in the Church, we had 7 of our youth and young adults respond to the challenge of being mentored and since doing this scheme, it has helped them immensely. One of the young adults half way through the program said, "I wish I had started this years ago. Having someone to encourage you in reading the Bible and praying keeps you disciplined in your daily walk with God."
For any church leader it can be sometimes hard to encourage that deep and disciplined walk with God within our congregations, youth groups and individual lives but partnering people with good mature mentors definitely made that happen in many of those who signed up. 'Get Connected' provided a structure and a stepping stone to mentor and encourage people in their walk with God and I would definitely encourage anyone who is serious about being following God to start an accountability relationship with a more mature Christian, whether that be through Get Connected or any other form.
