ET makes themselves at home
Saturday past had the potential to be great, potentially the best Saturday of the year so far. Ireland beat Scotland, to take them within touching distance of a Grand Slam title. Exodus had three great acts in that were enjoyed greatly. But regrettably, The heroes of Manchester had to embarrass themselves on their on turf against Liverpool, ruining the perfect day.
Even so, from an Exodus point of view it was pretty awesome. The guys from 'team Espanol 2b' had a good days bag packing, there was a good and vocal crowd in for the rugby and then we were treated to some special performances on the now daunting lounge stage.
First up were the girls from the ET band. These girls were outstanding, delivering their own takes on tunes ranging from Maroon 5 to Bluetree. Amazingly despite there only being the two girls and the keys, they took songs like 'She will be Loved' and even part of 'Use Somebody' and made them sound fantastic. Personal highlight had to be their take on Brinck's 'Don't wanna love her' (Broken Wings Don't Fly), if the sound was a person, that person would have been stunning!
Following these guys were some Wallace Old Boys Nathan McConnell and Stephen Adams, joined by Nathan's sister Chloe. Again as with the first girls, Steve and Chloe were able to compliment each other in their singing as Nathan played in accompanianment (I've googled that and yes, that is how it's spelt!). A nice rendition of 'Falling Slowly' from the film Once sticks in my mind in what was a good old classic acoustic set.
The final act on stage was Craig McConnell. The most simplistic of set-ups, one man and his guitar, Craig played a mix of his own material alongside some familiar covers. One of which was a version of Hallelujah, the ultimate test! He passed it well with a unique take that, like the rest of his set, showed off beauty in simplicity.
This Saturday is the Street Reach launch in Brownlee School, followed by the launch party in Exodus. Entrance is only for those attending the launch, so make it your aim to be there.
