Nu Salsa success on a new night

Nu Salsa success on a new night

Saturday past (4th April) was the first ever Salsa Night in Exodus.  Never before has it been done.  Not once.  But after Saturday it is safe to say it will be done again.

The night was taken by 'David', not given a surname because I still don't know it.  All we know is that he dances the Salsa and is the main man behind Nu Salsa.  In some ways he's like the Stig of the Salsa world.  Not that he wears a white jumpsuit or helmet but with the whole mystery thing...yea we'll work on that.

Anyway, David was down with his lovely friend Alannah to make us all into salsa pros and make sure we all had a lot of fun.  Probably fair to say in some cases he was only half successful, Pablo being prove that being Spanish(ish) does not guarentee being Salsa material.  But Dave definately succeeded in getting smiles on faces in one of the most enjoyable nights of the year.

We spent the first half of the night learning the basics.  We got our mambo on, we were side-stepping, in the open hold, the close hold and even spinning, even the guys!  And yes, there will be those of you who will be thinking 'that does not sound like the night for me', but believe me I was once like you, I thought Salsa was not so much for the guys but now I think I've been converted.

The second half of the night involved partnering up in a large circle.  Then we were introduced to 'La Rueda' (potentially wrong spelling), a dance where one person calls out moves that the pairs perform and typically end up swapping partners in.  We had a bit of Dame Una, bit of Adios and a smattering of enchufala to contend with.  Really good fun and just a little tough to do at pace!

So to some up, great night.  I should mention in the break between the two sessions, David and Alannah put on a bit of a dance and these guys are awesome.  Salsa done properly looks amazing.  Salsa done distinctly amateurly probably doesn't but it is great fun, and poor show all you who missed out!

This Saturday we have an Extended Play night with three top acts ready to perform for us.  For all you guys who aren't up at the north coast in the caravan or away to florida to catch up with Mickey, Exodus is the way to go Saturday night!  See you then.
