Happy Birthday Exodus

Happy Birthday Exodus

Exodus Lisburn celebrated its 1st birthday on Saturday night in style.  We had everything from the worlds worst smoothie to a pinata.

The night kicked off with some traditionalish party games.  Knights, horses and cavaliers saw an interesting trend of same-sex pairs, an unusual strategy!  Victory was for the guys in the end, with the girls let down by a particularly poor showing from Catherine and Kirsty.  Also in keeping with traditional games, we got the old 'fish slice and tennis ball' game goin'.  You've all played that one before I'm sure yea?  Perhaps not, either way this time the girls picked up a victory after some blatant cheating from Ian, poor show my man, poor show.

Next up we had Exodus-based band Capture Crossfire.  These guys have been working hard for over 6 months now and persevered through the disruption of two members leaving.  Now they're very much ready to go and are looking good as Unsigned looms on the horizon.

After a nostalgic slideshow looking back over the past 12 months (which, lets be honest, have been 12 beautiful months) we kicked on into the next portion of festivities.  This time it was pass the parcel, with four tough dares included in the wrapping.  Judith took home the Shrek 3 DVD, but it was the dares that will live in the memory.

First we had a storming rendition of the robot from one of the guys which would have put Peter Crouch to shame.  A typically thumping and horrendous tune selection from Sheep provided the beat.  Next up was Robin, notably mic-less when performing, serenading welcomer Gillian from the stage with his favourite love song, the Barney theme.  Loved it.  Catherine drew the decidedlyshort straw and got the opportunity to down Pablo's attempt at a smoothie.  Creamed pudding rice, cheese and onion crisps, fizzy water and a donut were blended up and poured (just about) into a glass.  Catherine didn't finish it but take it from me, if it tasted as bad as it smelt she deserves a medal.

To end the dares, 'Sponge' came to the front to take on the biggest challenge.  To set the scene, I should explain that Exodus Intern Gilky was in Thailand visiting his girlfriend for three weeks.  Samantha (the aforementioned girlfriend) has been away all year on a gap year with Pais.  Clearly absence made the heart grow fonder as the Gilk dropped to one knee and proposed on a beach in Thailand.  Sam's new title is now fiance.  Sponge was told to propose to Gilky and do it better than the big man himself.  It's hard to know how he compared but the little man showed potential anyway!

The band returned, performing renditions of Jet's 'Are You Gonna Be my Girl?' and Blink 182's 'Say it Aint So' aongst others and really got the Freedom crowd going.  Then to round up we had a bit of cake and a bit of pinata bashing to cap off what was, hopefully, the first birthday celebration of many.

This Saturday Team Espanol 2(b) are in charge and are throwing a social as a fundraiser for their team.  We're promised originality so make it your business to be there.  Until next time...
